UCR students - Justin Yanase, Anayely De La Vega, Andreina Mendoza, Jessica Gonzalez, Jeff Dai, and Omar Orozco , attended the TechConnect World Innovation Conference and Expo this week (June 17-19) in Washington, DC to showcase their innovative biochar air filter. Their design aims to remove ammonia gases found at livestock facilities (cow, pig, and chicken) using biochar made from biomass waste to produce cleaner air and a valuable biochar byproduct that can be used as a fertilizer and soil amendment. Their design would replace current ammonia air pollution control technologies that consume large amounts of water and acid. The team will also be presenting their design in October at the Water Environment Federation Technology Conference in New Orleans.
